Rohit Sharma Determination After NZ Win
In the ongoing ODI World Cup, India continued their impressive run with a fifth consecutive win, this time against New Zealand. India’s skipper, Rohit Sharma, led his side to victory by four wickets in a match that took place in Dharamsala. This win saw India collect 10 points and claim the top spot in the tournament. India remains the only unbeaten team in the ODI World Cup, and Rohit Sharma is determined not to let his team’s performance wane.
Chasing a target of 274, India had a good start with Rohit Sharma scoring 46 runs and Shubman Gill contributing 26 runs. However, quick wickets put India on the back foot. The foundation for the win was laid by the star batter, Virat Kohli, who scored an impressive 95 runs. Unfortunately, he missed out on a record-equaling century. KL Rahul (27) and Ravindra Jadeja (unbeaten 39) provided crucial support to help India reach the target. Suryakumar Yadav’s early run-out for just 2 runs left a gap in India’s batting lineup.
The star of the show in this match was Mohammed Shami, who was playing his first match in the ODI World Cup. He proved his worth with a five-wicket haul and played a vital role in restricting New Zealand to 273 runs in their 50 overs. Shami made an early impact by taking the wicket of Will Young (17) on the very first ball of his spell. He also contributed to breaking the partnership of Rachin Ravindra (75) and Daryl Mitchell (130), a crucial moment in the match when they had put together 159 runs for the third wicket.
Shami continued to haunt the Kiwis as he dismissed Mitchell Santner (1) and Matt Henry (0) on back-to-back deliveries. He was on the verge of a hat-trick in the 48th over but narrowly missed the milestone. He later completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Mitchell with Virat Kohli taking a catch in the deep. This was the third time in his ODI career that Shami achieved a five-wicket haul. He has been a key player for India in this World Cup.
With this victory, India has taken the top spot in the tournament with five successive wins, accumulating 10 points. In contrast, New Zealand has eight points. India’s impressive performance in the tournament has put them in a strong position. However, Rohit Sharma emphasized the need for balance and staying in the present moment. He praised Shami’s performance and also acknowledged Kohli’s contributions to the team over the years.
India’s next match is against England in Lucknow on October 29. A couple more wins will secure their spot in the last four. On the other hand, New Zealand’s next match is against arch-rivals and neighbors Australia on October 28.
Rohit Sharma is enjoying his form and is determined not to let his team’s performance wane. India’s unbeaten streak has garnered attention and put them in the driver’s seat in the ODI World Cup. It remains to be seen if they can continue their impressive run and clinch the title.
