He also contributed to breaking the partnership of Rachin Ravindra (75) and Daryl Mitchell (130), a crucial moment in the match when they had put together 159 runs for the third wicket.
Shami continued to haunt the Kiwis as he dismissed Mitchell Santner (1) and Matt Henry (0) on back-to-back deliveries. He was on the verge of a hat-trick in the 48th over but narrowly missed the milestone. He later completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Mitchell with Virat Kohli taking a catch in the deep. This was the third time in his ODI career that Shami achieved a five-wicket haul. He has been a key player for India in this World Cup.
With this victory, India has taken the top spot in the tournament with five successive wins, accumulating 10 points. In contrast, New Zealand has eight points. India’s impressive performance in the tournament has put them in a strong position. However, Rohit Sharma emphasized the need for balance and staying in the present moment.
