Earlier Sunday, City thrashed Al Ain 6-1 to move into the tournament’s last 16 after Real Madrid overcame a first-half dismissal to defeat Mexican team Pachuca 3-1.
The second round of group games at the tournament was concluded with Juventus proving too strong for Wydad Casablanca and Red Bull Salzburg drawing 0-0 with Al Hilal.
City took an early lead through Ilkay Gundogan before 19-year-old Claudio Echeverri scored his first goal for the club from a free-kick with Erland Haaland converting the third from the penalty spot just before half-time.
Gundogan added a second after half time before two brought more, Oscar Bobb sliding the fifth in and Rayan Cherki scoring his first City goal from a high in 6-0.
The outcome from a match witnessed by over 40,000 fans means the two clubs are safely through to the last 16 (after both won their first two fixtures in Group G).
They then meet in Orlando on Thursday for the section top spot.
City coach Pep Guardiola, who replaced his entire starting XI from the 2-0 opener victory over Wydad, said: “Now we have to wait; we will be first or second of the group.

We stepped it up a notch from game one, at least in the second half. Kenan Yildiz was among the stars as Juventus hammered Moroccan giants Wydad 4-1 in Philadelphia.
With nearly 32,000 at Lincoln Financial Field looking on, the Turkish international forward netted twice after having created the own goal that had put Juve in front.
Yildiz’s effort went in with a little help from a touch off Abdelmounaim Boutouil and, on 16 minutes, the second was scored for Yildiz when he hammered home a half-volley.
Wydad was given hope with South African winger Thembinkosi Lorch clawing one back, but the impressive Yildiz made it 3-1 at the midway point of the second half and Dusan Vlahovic then converted a penalty to wrap up the win for Igor Tudor’s side in injury time.
Asked about Yildiz, Tudor said on broadcaster DAZN: “He has huge potential. He’s a great player and he’s got the world ahead of him
Real Madrid bounced back from Raul Asencio’s early red card to defeat Pachuca in Charlotte and register one of their first victories under new coach Xabi Alonso.
They were reduced to ten men just seven minutes in when defender Asencio brought down Salomon Rondon as the Venezuelan broke free on goal and was shown a red card.

This left the Liga MX side smelling blood in front of 70,248 at the home of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers.
But Real went in front on 35 minutes when Jude Bellingham smacked a left-foot shot low into the corner and then added a third before the break via Arda Guler.
In the second half, Fede Valverde scored their third before Pachuca got one back, Elias Montiel’s effort deflected to beat the keeper.
Speaking after the game, Alonso said his side demonstrated their attitude when dealing with the early red card.
It was very intense for us yes, but with a lot of sacrifice and solidarity, which is what you need to defend well,” he said.
The already saw Salzburg draw 0-0 against Al Hilal in Washington, DC, leaving the Spanish side level with the Austrians on four points at the top of Group H.
Standing in third place are Al Hilal, who can still advance with a win against eliminated Pachuca next, as they have two points. Madrid and Salzburg will square off next to each other in Philadelphia.
