Abu Dhabi T10: Quetta secure Qualifier 1 spot with thrilling win

Quetta Qavalry sealed their spot in Qualifier 1 with a thrilling Super Over triumph against the Vista Riders to remain at the summit of the 2025 Abu Dhabi T10 standings.

Additionally, Aspin Stallions went second in the table with six-wicket win over UAE Bulls (119/5).

The Royal Champs got the better of the Northern Warriors by seven wickets in the last game on Thursday for their first win of the season.

Muhammad Waseem’s explosive 41 not out off 14 balls and Liam Livingstone’s winning six in the Super Over did it for them while Vista Riders were led by Ben McDermott’s 44 off 27 as they took the contest deep.

Openers Quetta made a bright start with Andries Gous smashing two fours and a six in his 23 off 16 balls before he became Dwaine Pretorius’ first victim in the fifth over.

Evin Lewis maintained the attack with a couple of boundaries to take the Qavalry to 52/1 at the halfway stage before he too was bowled by Andrew Tye.

Waseem then took charge, hammering three fours and three sixes in a blistering onslaught as Liam Livingstone, Khwaja Nafay and Fabian Allen had short cameos. His late blitz propelled Quetta to a competitive 104/5.

In reply, Faf du Plessis hit Ali Majid for a six before being bowled. McDermott and Unmukt Chand then rebuilt patiently, but Chand was dismissed by Abbas Afridi in the fourth over.

McDermott’s fluent 44 off 27 balls, including four fours and two sixes, had kept Riders very much in the chase at 46/2 after five overs. Sean Dickson (17 off 11) provided some pressure-relieving boundaries before having to retire hurt, which left the late push to McDermott and the lower order.

The tide turned when Livingstone took a top diving gully catch to get rid of McDermott off the bowling of Khuzaima Tanveer and Pretorius edged behind next ball.

Requiring 16 off the final over, Matthew Forde and CP Rizwan kept their composure, hitting a six and a four to take it to the first Super Over of the season.

Vista Riders posted 12/0 in McDermott and du Plessis and the latter hit a boundary. Quetta’s response got off to a four from Waseem before Nafay went big and fell, but Livingstone then came into his own with an enormous six over square leg for a victory to remember that sees Quetta heading top of the table.
