Amazing feeling: Indian players celebrate Champions Trophy triumph

The Dubai International Stadium echoed with the sound of Queen’s “We will rock You” while India advanced towards their Champions Trophy victory after solving some problems during Sunday’s final against New Zealand.

As Ravindra Jadeja sent Will O’Rourke to deep square leg boundary to bring India across the line for a four-wicket win chasing 252 with six balls remaining fireworks lit up the sky.

The Indian players performed ‘Gangnam Style’ dances on the field while celebrating beneath the legendary Ring of Fire.

The Indian players enjoyed celebratory reasons both on the field and in the stands after achieving five consecutive wins two months following their Australian Test series loss.

As they entered the Champions Trophy final in Dubai undefeated throughout all their matches, Rohit Sharma’s team entered as the clear favorites to beat New Zealand.

New Zealand elected to bat and managed to score 251/7 with Daryl Mitchell (63 off 101 balls) and Michael Bracewell (53 not out off 40 balls) delivering strong half-centuries as Indian spinners pushed their top-order to the limit.

Kuldeep Yadav secured two wickets for 40 runs while Varun Chakaravarthy claimed two wickets for 45 runs and Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket for 30 runs to deliver exceptional performances with their bowling.

Although Axar Patel failed to take any wickets as the team’s fourth spinner he maintained pressure on New Zealand through his precise line and length as a left-arm spinner.

Rohit established the foundation for India’s victory by scoring 76 runs from 83 balls while building an opening partnership of 105 runs with Shubman Gill who scored 31 runs.

New Zealand responded by taking wickets at consistent intervals with their bowling.

India secured their second ICC trophy within eight months because Shreyas Iyer scored 48 off 62 balls, KL Rahul remained unbeaten with 34 off 33 balls and Axar Patel contributed 29 off 40 balls after their win at the ICC T20 World Cup in Barbados on June 29, 2024.

“It is very nice. Our cricket skills remained strong during the entire tournament. The skipper Rohit described it as a great feeling to achieve the desired result after receiving the man-of-the-match award.

Rohit received the man-of-the-match award for his batting performance but it was left-arm spinner Yadav who played the decisive role by turning the match in India’s favour.

With the Kiwis dominating on a favorable batting surface Yadav dismissed dangerous batsman Rachin Ravindra (37 off 29 balls) with a turning ball and then in his subsequent over Kane Williamson (11 off 14 balls), the New Zealand superstar was caught and bowled with another turning delivery.

The bowling unit received excellent guidance from the team management throughout the tournament according to Yadav.

We have been performing brilliantly despite my disbelief in favorite player tags. This win is dedicated to our fans. While it sounds simple to state that our team consists of four spinners the reality reveals significant challenges when it comes to managing four spinners. The team required extensive planning and Rohit bhai deserves all the credit.

Indian fans at the 25,000-capacity stadium experienced disappointment as Virat Kohli faced his rare batting failure against Bracewell and got out for one run.

Kohli quickly joined his teammates to celebrate after Jadeja scored the match-winning boundary.

Our team performed remarkably because we sought redemption following a challenging tour of Australia. It has been a joy to play alongside this talented group of young players. The 36-year-old batting superstar who scored 218 runs in the tournament stated, “The team members are advancing and guiding India towards the right path.”

Having played for many years makes you anticipate the challenge of performing under high-pressure situations. The team needs every player to perform better in each game to secure championships. The combination of powerful performances and effective spells by players enabled our team to succeed through collective effort.

Throughout the tournament India demonstrated their status as the top team by delivering strong performances across all departments.

Their opponents will likely keep highlighting that playing at a single location in Dubai gave India an edge over teams that competed in various venues throughout Pakistan.

Victory on the playing field requires athletes to perform their absolute best.

India demonstrated clinical performance across all matches through their spinners who dominated opponents with precise spin bowling and their batsmen who maintained solid runs until the finish.
