Cricket: Hat trick of domestic titles for Team Abu Dhabi

With their claiming of the Triple Crown of the Emirates Cricket Board, including D50, D10, and D20, Team Abu Dhabi became the first team in the UAE to achieve all three titles.

This marks Team Abu Dhabi’s historic triumph at the D50 tournament, cementing their victory in D20 and D10 earlier this year. Abu Dhabi has now become the second team in the history of the UAE to claim all three ECB domestic tournaments after Fujairah achieved this in 2024.

The achievement was noted as stricking resonances far past sporting sod, fully supporting the community driven vision set by the emirates for the year while making clear moves towards building cricket as a unifying sports across the gulf states.

Abu Dhabi’s Chief for Cricket and Sports Hub, Matthew Boucher, regarded the award as another memento in the rising popularity of cricket in the capital.

Winning the Triple Crown “shows the effort, commitment and the sheer resilience of all the people associated with Team Abu Dhabi,” he explained. “It is not just about winning trophies; it is about advancing further on the strategy of partnership with Abu Dhabi Sports Council to drive up the community participation through cricket.

This is a highlight, a true – real life – manifestation of a player pathway process from the Zayed Cricket Academy for our junior players, through a vibrant domestic cricketing ecosystem and then successfully integrated into Team Abu Dhabi at the national level. Congratulations to all.”

Abu Dhabi’s D50 tournament promises to be underpinned by consistent and dominant performances. Team Abu Dhabi also emerged victorious in D20 and D10 tournaments, which saw them crowned champions this season after being runners-up last season. These achievements mark yet another milestone on Abu Dhabi’s mission to hone and cultivate cricketing talent in the region.

Bohlmann Ruan, the Team Abu Dhabi head coach, commended the players for their outstanding attitude and commitment toward the team. “Winning these three titles together, this Triple Crown as we like to call it, is not a coincidence,” he stated. “It comes from extensive research over the years, preparing and developing young players, and fostering a winning attitude.”

“They have contributed to a movement beyond cricket, which brings our community together, and we are proud to represent the capital with such distinction.”

In retrospect, only a few years ago Abu Dhabi was last in the standing and scrapping for every single point. “We achieved every goal that was set before us, had remarkable synergy and cooperation, as well as an unwavering attitude towards our goals. We displayed incredible spirit,” Bohlmann remarked.

With the latest successes, Abu Dhabi further cements the emirate’s focus on nurturing cricketing talent across multiple levels.
