India making strong push to host 2036 Olympics: Modi

Dehradun: Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Tuesday that the government is actively pursuing the 2036 Olympics for India. 

Modi declared during the opening ceremony of the 38th National Games at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium that hosting the Olympics will enhance sports facilities while simultaneously driving economic growth in construction, transport, and tourism sectors. 

Our athletes strive for higher achievements while India advances with a strong determination. It is energetically working to secure hosting rights for the 2036 Olympic Games. Modi stated that India’s sporting landscape would reach unprecedented levels when the Olympics take place in India. 

“Olympics is not only about organising Games.  Every country that hosts the Olympics experiences growth across multiple sectors. The requirement of sports facilities for Olympic Games generates numerous job opportunities. Sports facilities get better.  A city that hosts the Olympics experiences construction of new connectivity and infrastructure. The construction industry along with the transport sector and especially the tourism sector receive significant advantages. The Games attract participants and spectators from all around the world. It benefits the whole country.”  

He said that hosting the National Games will bring similar benefits to Uttarakhand. He explained that sports performance boosts economic growth across multiple sectors. The Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha joined Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at the event. 

The country has expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics while IOA engages in discussions with the International Olympics Committee’s Future Hosts Committee. 

Modi explained that the government support for athletes resulted in better performance and medal counts at international competitions. 

Throughout the year numerous tournaments are set up and multiple new events have been added to the Khelo India Series. 

He stated that sports plays an important role in advancing India’s comprehensive development. Sports development serves as a crucial element for the country growth while bolstering the self-assurance of its younger population. 

He explained how India’s drive to become the third-largest economic power relies heavily on the sports economy while highlighting Meerut’s sports goods industry which employs more than three lakh people. He reported that similar ecosystems are growing throughout the nation. 

Usha observed how Indian athletes have achieved better results internationally. 

Our athletes have risen to championship levels in events such as the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and the Olympics beyond mere participation. “The former track queen called for us to unite in celebrating the spirit of sport.”
