Belgium has only achieved victory in two of the last ten games it attended and only managed to avoid taking the last positions of the table and top-sea relegation by virtue of superior head-to-head performance concerning the Israelis
The Sunday Nations League defeat of Belgium by Israel 1 – 0 has however raised the stakes on coach Domenico Tedesco who still thinks that he is the best fit for the position
Nonetheless, the replacement Domenico Tedesco thinks he knows best how to manage the sideline, including the players and the club personnel therefore remaining unshaken by the defeat on Sunday in the hands of Israel. The Nations League game lasted 90 minutes and ended with a 1 goal commentary from Israel to make it 1 – 0 against Tedesco of Belgium.
Belgium has won just two of its last ten internationals and only on the last match day, managed to not finish at the basement of its group and therefore would have been safe from being relegated from the top division owing to superior head to head statistics against Israelis.
Domenico Tedeschi underscores how he continues to be a subject of nasty criticism since Spanning Belgium’s exit from the European Championship and the fact that the loss in Hungary was not able to bring solace to the concerns about the coach’s future Tedesco’s outlook was focused on his fighting spirit and role in the team.

“Considering difficulties, I have a very smooth working style and character which helps in a tough situation. My goal is to achieve results, the fans have to be satisfied. We will focus on this goal,” he stated.
Thanks to the new Belgian head coach, Domenico Tedesco, Belgium’s football aficionados were optimistic going into this competition with the promise of a more progressive style of play. Alas, the manager’s previous claims to be in ‘rebuilding’ mode panned out to be unfounded as Belgium remained passive and conservative throughout the campaign.
After Euro 2024, Tedesco promised reporters that a positive change was coming, stating, “We can not play the same key players every game because we will not win anything, so we have to make changes.” He previously claimed that Belgium lacked intensity and focus in various games, exclaiming that players who were not given chances during build-up must be given those opportunities now.
But this campaign was not very different either, seeing as the EPSO ‘Belgium’ squad had to endure many injuries throughout the qualifiers.
Belgium’s final group stage match saw them lose the game in the last dying minutes where a terrible defensive lapse by the young and inexperienced Matte Smets proved to be costly. Belgium still managed to lose their NATIONS LEAGUE encounter with Israel for the second time this year as Tedesco’s reign as coach begins to come under scrutiny despite him ‘still believing’ that he’s a right fit for this team.
With only 2 wins in the last 10 games, Belgium surely has something to think over as they narrowly escaped relegation from the top-tier group because of a slightly better head-to-head record against Israel.
The 39-year-old has faced criticisms following Belgium’s disappointing exit during the Euro Championship. Following the defeat in Budapest on Sunday which did not do much to lift the pressure on Tedesco, he however remained optimistic about his role.
“I have confidence in my quality. I have confidence in my staff, my players. I have confidence in the people around me. I know how hard I work,” he said.
Belgium’s meek strategies have been challenged over the course of the six-match campaign notwithstanding Tedesco’s promise prior to the clash with France at the Euro 2024 last 16 in July about being more daring in his management.
“After the Euros, I told you that we have to change something in some games, we missed intensity, and that we have to try new players because if we don’t do it now we will never do it,” Tedesco addressed the media. “This campaign was different because of many, many injuries.”

Belgium was without several first team regulars during their last group game on Sunday and succumbed to defeat deep into stoppage time after making a terrible defensive mistake through new cap Matte Smets.
“It was a difficult game, difficult circumstances, and it’s difficult to say something harsh to this young team,” was how Tedesco responded to the situation.
“In comparison to previous years, we are more prepared for the World Cup qualifiers which are to be held next year.”
Despite his future becoming news at the center of controversy in Belgium after the loss against Israel, Tedesco remains undeterred by it.
“The adverse feeling is not a novel phenomenon. I was informed that this is quite common in Belgium,” he further stressed.
“Of course the results in the league of nations were not positive but come March we have a kind of final in the playoff rounds in order to retain our position in the A League. It will be good to start the New Year with great concentration.”
